INC Delegates and Friends:
INC is one of seven organizations sponsoring a Town Hall Meeting
tonight to discuss this fall's bond referendum. Please make plans to
come and learn more about these important bonds.
Tonight, October 13
7 PM
Miller-Morgan Health Education Building, NCCU
On Nelson Street, right in the heart of campus, off Fayetteville Street
This promises to be an informative session. The format follows:
* Introduction of City administrators, City Council primary
winners, current City Council members, and co-sponsor organization leaders
* Introduction of the eight bonds by City Manager Patrick Baker
* Seven co-sponsor leaders/representatives comment on the bonds
* Open forum for as many as 50 speakers (speaker sign-up sheets
will be available in the lobby)
INC's co-sponsors include: Durham County Republican Party, Durham
County Democratic Party, Durham County Libertarian Party, Durham
People's Alliance, Friends of Durham, and Durham Realtors
Association. Special thanks to Jack Steer for serving as the event's organizer.
As you may recall, INC passed the following resolution this past summer.
Whereas:
There is considerable dissatisfaction with the failure of earlier
bond referendums to cover all the promised projects, and
Unpredictable changes in costs are making it harder and harder to
plan perfectly, and
Citizen involvement generally improves results and increases public
satisfaction,
The InterNeighborhood Council of Durham resolves that City Council
should create a Citizen Oversight Committee for spending the proceeds
of the 2005 bond referendums and appoint members to the committee
before the election in November.
This will be the only official position INC will take on the bond
package. Obviously, individual neighborhoods and delegates are free
to take their own position.
I look forward to seeing many of you tonight.
Mike Woodard
INC President
