Durham, N.C. – The City of Durham was chosen from among dozens of
candidates to participate in the 2005 “City Showcase” at the National
League of Cities’ annual Congress of Cities conference in Charlotte, N.C.,
from December 6-10, 2005.

The Showcase is an annual display and celebration of innovative city
programs from around the country, offering city leaders a chance to share
ideas and valuable experiences with the more than 3,000 delegates who are
expected to attend the conference.

The City of Durham is showcasing its Measuring Our Progress:
Community-Wide Results Based Accountability Project.  This is an
initiative in which the City partnered with Durham County and the
community to achieve eight priority outcomes.  The Results Based
Accountability Project provides a constructive forum where citizens are
empowered to tell local government what it should be measuring, what
strategies will have the greatest impact, and how it is doing in these
outcome areas.  In addition, this initiative provides a common language
for engaging in a structured conversation about how to make positive
changes within the Durham community.

Conference attendees will be able to learn more about this project, meet
with representatives from the City of Durham, and discover how this
program was planned and implemented.  To learn more about the Results
Based Accountability Project, visit the City’s website at
http://www.durhamnc.gov/rba/.

The National League of Cities (NLC) is the oldest and largest national
organization for American cities.  NLC serves as a resource and advocate
for 18,000 cities, towns, and villages of all sizes, which collectively
serve 225 million people.  To learn more about the NLC’s Congress of
Cities event, visit
