We are in desperate need for volunteers to usher and docent for this final
fabulous community event. No experience necessary. We need YOU.  Of the 39
three hour shifts we need to fill we only have 15 people signed up and only
one week to go.  Juliet is also doing school and community group tours on
Thursday and Friday the 19th and 20th during the day and is also in need of
many usher/assistants.  We have some work to do. Can you give us 3 hours?
Please email Frank at info at rousseprojectdurham.com. Also keep watching the
website!  We have added some more site and volunteer photos and next week we
will have a significant reorganization of the site.  Thanks again to Jeanne
and Clarke at Designing Solutions for their amazing work on the website.

We want to take this chance to thank everyone one more time for all of your
hard work and generous support of this world class project and hope to see
everyone out there next weekend!²

female identity and experience the male gaze, objectification, fetishism,

paradoxically, I put myself in a position of control, reverse the balance of
power and play on the ambiguity of the objectifying gazeŠ² Cynthia Grow
successfully amalgamates both text and image in a series of new paintings.
Grow believes there are multiple methods to viewing a works of art. She
believes that by merging linguistic models with visual models, challenges

The Transom Gallery: Presents ³Evidence: The Life and Death of Gilbert
Barber.² An Art Show examining Police Brutality in NC. In 2001, Gilbert
Barber was killed by Guilford County Deputy Thomas Gordy. After a 5 year
struggle on the part of Gil Barber's parents to bring the evidence of police
brutality to the public, their civil case was recently denied admission to
the courts. On October 20th they will get their chance. With a collaborative
team of artists and activists, we will bring you the story of Gil's life,
the story (as far as it can be constructed) of Gil's death, and this story's
context within the larger context of police brutality in North Carolina and
in the United States in general.

This show will present physical evidence never heard in any courtroom, as
well as "artistic evidence" by local artists, shedding light on the societal
context of police brutality. This art exhibit is a collaborative effort
between Durham and Greensboro community activists and artists, including
Butch Stewart, Gil Barber's father. It will be shown in Durham: October
20th-November 6th, 2006 at Transom Gallery and in Greensboro: November

The Designer Emporium: Excerpt from The Durham News: "It's going to be very
nice," said proprietor-to-be Katherine Neal. "Very upscale." The Emporium,
at 335 W. Main St., is going to lease floor space to "vendors from all kinds
of fields," Neal said. "It's going to be new as well as gently used things."
Among those fields are designer bridal wear, fine furniture and an art
gallery. Neal said she has been in business in the Cary-Morrisville area for
some time, but also looking for an opportunity in inner Durham. "Because of
all the great renovation and growth coming in there, and I just thought it
would be apropos for this time. ... I don't think we could have found a
better spot. I'm really hoping it can be successful." 335 W. Main St.,
678-8564.
