workers, artists, activists, military personnel, teachers and students; they
are Black, Latina, Jewish and White; they are mothers or child-free; they
range in age from 19 to 54. Their stories weave together with the
filmmaker¹s diary entries to present a compelling, moving and at times
surprisingly funny ³dinner party² where the audience is invited to hear what
women say behind closed doors about motherhood, medical technology, sex,
spirituality, love, work and their own bodies.

Audience Award, New Orleans International Human Rights Film Festival
Choice USA ³Spirit of Communication² Award
Best Documentary (Student), Carolina Film/Video Festival

The Abortion Diaries clocks in at only 30 minutes, leaving ample time for
the lively discussion that follows each screening. Since the film¹s release
in October 2005, over 120 college groups, health providers, feminist
centers, community media centers, churches and just plain people have taken
the opportunity to use The Abortion Diaries as a way to promote a healthy
dialoge about abortion in their communities. Screenings have consistently
drawn large and passionate crowds of people from all walks of life and all
generations who engage in eye-opening, inspired discussion about what
reproductive freedom means to all of us.

Reclaiming Midwives: Stills from All My Babies
Photographs by Robert Galbraith, Film by George C. Stoney

A traveling exhibition curated by Linda Janet Holmes, Reclaiming Midwives
features photographs by Robert Galbraith that explore the lives and
experiences of black midwives in Georgia in the early 1950s. ³Galbraith¹s
photographs tell a collective story about the multifaceted experience of
midwifery as an intimate and embracing experience for women of varying ages.
Š To me, the subtext of these photographs is more than the fact that family
life is central to the stories of midwives. Deborah Willis, University
Professor of Photography and Imaging, Tisch School of the Arts, New York
University

February 4, 2 4 p.m.
Screening of All My Babies, with Director George Stoney and Judith Helfand,

March 8, 7 p.m.
Screening of All My Babies

In addition to recording many of the key scenes that made up the film,
Galbraith emphasizes the communal bonds formed between traditional midwives,
often called Œgranny midwives,¹ and their clients. The sense of kinship
within a segregated society is visible in these photographs, while the
regulation and certification of midwife training (which was the primary
purpose of the film) becomes less prominent. Lisa Henry, curator and writer
