Registration Open for the 1st Session of the Citizen’s Fire Academy

                             

Durham, NC- Durham residents interested in learning more about the operations and services provided by the Durham Fire Department can register for the departments inaugural Citizen’s Fire Academy.  Applications are now being accepted for the seven week program which is scheduled for April 17 through June 5.  Class will meet every Tuesday night from 6 to 9 pm at the Durham Fire Department Administration and Training Center located at 2008 East Blvd.  

 

The Academy’s goal is to provide an interactive forum in which the participants can experience the day to day operations of the fire department as well as learning basic fire safety.  Class room sessions coupled with hands on activities and demonstrations are designed to give the participants the opportunity to experience what it is really like to be a firefighter.  Students will learn about the services provided by the fire department, basic fire safety, and they will receive CPR certification.  

 

Registration will be open until the class is full or Thursday April 5.  The Citizen’s Fire Academy will be limited to 16 students and it is expected to fill up fast, so please don’t wait too long before applying.  Applications will be processed on a first come basis with preference given to individuals that live within the city limits.
