Donating In-kind Items (including furniture and appliances) and Stores that
Resell Items as Fundraisers for Non-profit Organizations


This list gives a brief description of non-profit groups¹ purposes that
accept used things and new basic necessities (including their high priority
needs.) It may be possible to receive a tax deduction for your in-kind
donations. 

Pennies for Change Thrift Store  489-2681

Re-sale store run by the Durham Crisis Response Center.  The shop also
donates items to victims of domestic & sexual assault.
Desires:  cell phones (in working condition,) electronics, CDs, jewelry,
linens, dishes, house wares, small furniture, art, lamps, paper products and
clothes. Tuesday through Saturday

young people, by providing shelter and teaching the life skills that foster
independence. Since 1989, the agency has provided a safe, stable place where

Triangle Freecycle 
The goal of Freecycle(tm)is to reduce waste in landfills. Freecycle(tm)
Durham North Carolina is open to local individuals who want to recycle that
special item rather than throw it away. Whether you're looking to discard or
acquire an item, Freecycle(tm)Durham NC is the way to do it, as long as it's
FREE --- no trades or bartering!  The understanding is that the taker will

City of Durham residents can bring items (that are still of use to someone
else --- that are in working order) to be swapped or donated to Durham
County dump. Acceptable items include fixable and reusable home items,
office items, appliances, tools and toys and can be dropped at the SWAP area
at the Waste disposal & Recycling Center.  No clothes. No person may take
more than 3 large items from the SWAP before 1 pm.
  
Yard Waste, bulky items (such as broken appliances or furniture, tires (ff
rims only) and miscellaneous junk can be disposed of at the Waste Disposal &
Recycling Center.
 
No shingles.  No household hazardous waste (HHW) will be accepted at the
above site.
