Durham City-County Interim Planning Director Announced

Durham, N.C. – Assistant Planning Director Steve Medlin has been named
interim director of the Durham City-County Planning Department by City
Manager Patrick Baker and County Manager Mike Ruffin.

He succeeds Frank Duke, who resigned last month for a new position in
Norfolk, Va.  Medlin will manage the department’s operations until a
permanent replacement is hired.  "I am excited and humbled with the
opportunity to serve Durham in this capacity,” Medlin said.  “I look
forward to working with both the county and city managers and the elected
boards."

Medlin has more than 20 years of service in the department having worked
his way up the ranks from an associate planner progressing to his current
position.  Prior to coming to Durham, he worked with the U.S. Department
of Commerce’s Census Bureau.  He holds a bachelor’s degree in Urban and
Regional Planning from East Carolina University, located in Greenville,
N.C.

Medlin’s appointment is effective September 22, 2007.  His salary will be
$104,000.
