FRIENDS OF THE DURHAM LIBRARY FALL BOOK SALE
SET FOR Oct. 5 to 7

Durham-Friends of the Durham Library volunteers are busy getting ready
for the group's biggest book sale of the year. The Fall Book Sale, set
for Oct. 5 through 7, will feature thousands of books, audiobooks, CDs
and videos. The sale begins Friday, Oct, 5, with a members-only evening
from 4 to 7. Memberships can be purchased at the door. Everyone is
welcome Saturday, Oct. 6, from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. and Sunday, Oct. 7,
from 2 to 5 p.m. The sale is held at the Main Library, 300 N. Roxboro
St. in downtown Durham, in the auditorium, garage and under tents set up
for the event.

Shoppers will find paperbacks starting at 50 cents and hardbacks at $1.
On Sunday, most fiction and nonfiction is $7 per bag. This sale
features a large selection of children's books, history books and titles
of African-American interest. A favorite of book lovers and bargain
hunters alike is the collection of books in gift-giving condition that
are individually priced drastically below retail value.

Everyone is encouraged to join the Friends. Memberships are available
for adults ($15), youth 18 and under ($5), seniors over 65 ($10) and
families ($25). In addition to being able to shop during the
members-only evening, Friends members receive the "Best of Friends"
newsletter, the award-winning Season's Readings and discounts at a
number of local bookstores.

For more than 30 years, the Friends of the Durham Library Inc. has
helped the Durham County Library provide programs, materials and
equipment to better meet the public's need for quality library services.
The group uses the proceeds from its book sales to benefit the Library
and, ultimately, the entire community. The organization has made
possible a number of programs, equipment purchases and collection
enhancements through the years, including free books for children,
laptops for a teen creative writing program, family entertainment
throughout the year and the Summer Reading Club.

Most recently, the Friends of the Durham Library issued a $25,000
challenge grant to Durham residents. The Friends will match every new
donation made to the Durham Library Foundation's Campaign for the
Library, dollar-for-dollar, up to $25,000. All new donations, together
with the Friends challenge, will be used to improve technology resources
at the Library. The Friends challenge ends in Oct., 2007.
