More concern for development practices in South
Durham...see the letter from today's Herald Sun below.

Aside from the extreme environmental degradation, the
traffic at this intersection is already high volume
and extremely dangerous. Connecting Garret Rd. to NC
54 will do nothing to alleviate this situation. Adding
to the evolving nightmare of this area is a
condominium project on the west side of NC 751
adjacent to Army Corps land and a request to rezone
for more commercial in the area of Johnson Lexus. It's
sounding a lot like Cary to me...

A tragedy on N.C. 54
What has happened where Hope Valley Road meets N.C. 54
is a real tragedy. Acres of trees and habitat near a
watershed has been clear cut. For what? Another
high-priced Harris-Teeter? There are already three
Harris-Teeters between that location and University
Mall in Chapel Hill and another one just east on N.C.
54. Such development is a cancer on this area which
will never be reclaimed. It makes one a fan of zoning.
But where were our "leaders" who approved such
destruction? Hold them to the fire on that vote,
because it's a test of things to come.
