"I took this picture from a point at the mouth of
Northeast Creek and looking west toward the NC 751
bridge.

What you see is what is becoming a delta that is the
result of over 20 years of development in the
Northeast Creek basin. The channel of Northeast Creek
zig-zags through this deposition of sediment, showing
just how much [Jordan] lake has been filled in as a
result of poor development practices. When Jordan
Lake is silted up, no municipality can draw water from
it. And dredging silt from the bottom in order to
preserve the reservoir will be very expensive.

Drawing water from Jordan Lake is ultimately a
temporary solution, one which puts the power to cut
Durham's water off in the hands of public officials
responsive to the citizens of Cary not Durham. Or it
requires extensive construction of pipelines and the
forbearance of Chatham County citizens in order to tap
this resource directly. Right now, relationships
among these counties and municipalities are congenial.
But what would happen in a dramatically more serious
drought? (Indeed, this drought has not yet ended.)"
