Simpson succeeds Ken Joyner who announced his resignation at the end of
2007 for a position with UNC Chapel Hill’s School of Government.   Simpson
has managed the department’s operations as the interim tax administrator

Durham and working with a very dedicated staff,” says Simpson.  According
to Ellen Reckhow, Chairman of the Durham County Board of Commissioners,
“During Kim Simpson’s ten-year tenure in Durham County, she has
demonstrated a great deal of expertise, innovation, and commitment.  We
are confident that she will move the department forward and continue the
gains that we have experienced during the past five years.”

Simpson has more than 18 years in tax administration and holds
certifications with the NC Tax Collectors Association as a Certified
Deputy Tax Collector, along with the North Carolina Department of Revenue

the William A. Campbell Award from the North Carolina Tax Collector’s
Association. She is currently education chairman for the North Carolina
Association of Assessing Officers, and was recently appointed to serve on
The North Carolina Property Tax System.

Simpson’s appointment is effective immediately.  The Durham County Board
of Commissioners appointed her to a two year term ending June 30, 2010.
