INC NEWS - Free Youth Leadership Initiative funded by Kate B Reynolds

The  following program is free for youth living in PAC 1 and PAC 2 (due to 
grant fund  requirements). Youth living in PACs 3 - 5 are welcome to attend for 
a nominal  fee. Spaces are limited.   
All  sessions begin October 3, 2008 - East Regional Library unless otherwise  
noted. 
LIVING  IN FUTURE TENSE (LIFT) 
Youth  Leadership and Service Learning program to train youth to use their 
power as  asset builders and change agents. Research shows that when youth are 
mobilized  they are less likely to exhibit deviant orientations compared with 
other  students.  
Youth  Leadership Program Administrators and Parent Facilitators  
Earl  and Wanda Boone  
The  Boones have mentored youth and families since 1974. Earl worked as an 
Educator  for over 20 years before becoming a Case Manager and Prevention 
Specialist  (at-risk and adjudicated youth). Wanda worked for 20 years as Executive 
Director  of QA and Regulatory Affairs, selected by the President of the US to 
participate  on several working groups in Washington, DC before becoming a 
Prevention  Specialist, Parent and Youth Group Facilitator and Community 
Coalition Founder.  She is the Chair of the Substance Abuse, Partnership for a 
Healthy Durham,  Faith-based and Best Practices for Youth 0-17 Subcommittees, Durham 
County  Collaborative System of Care.  
This  program is funded in part through a Kate B Reynolds grant award.   
LIFT  for Youth: Friday Retreats   
Personal  and Social Responsibility is a Character-Building Program Focusing 
On:  
Exercise  self-discipline,  Solve problems peacefully, Increase their sense 
of  self-worth, Recognize their impact on others, Maintain dignity and  respect 
for themselves and others, Set personal goals and make them  happen, Accept 
responsibility for their actions     
LIFT  for Parents and Caregivers:  Bi-lingual  
This  program is geared towards parents of difficult children with special  
applications for use with children with Attention Deficit Disorder (and  
Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder). The activity-based workbook helps  
parents apply the concepts at home.
