INC NEWS - I need your help

As part of Durham's Gang Reduction Strategy, we are working to compile a
working group of all organizations/programs, big and small, which provide
services to at-risk and gang-involved youth and adults.  I currently serve
as Chairman of the Steering Committee.  The Steering Committee is tasked to
provide assistance with strategic planning and implementation as it relates
to issues that may hinder implementation of the 45 recommendations derived
from the Comprehensive Gang Assessment.

 

There are four major categories of programs:

 

Prevention:  programs that help reduce the number of youth who join gangs

Intervention:  programs that offer treatment/rehabilitation to remove youth
from gangs

Suppression:  programs that weaken gangs and thwart their recruitment
efforts

Re-entry:  programs that reduce recidivism

 

If you know of any program that serves our community in any of the four
major categories, please encourage the program leaders to subscribe to a new
listserv that was created for this purpose.  Program leaders can subscribe
to the list by sending a message to dnoc-subscribe at yahoogroups.com.

 

I know that there are many good programs that serve our community.  One of
our primary challenges is identifying what exists.  With your help, I know
it will be possible to build an inventory of programs that is comprehensive
and the listserv will enable the program leaders to work and learn from each
other to help reconnect our youth to family and schools.
