Hi folks. Sorry for the late notice, but wanted to inform that you should not go through too much trouble to attend the city council meeting tonight (Mar 2, 7 PM) -- if your concern is for stormwater regulations, in any case.

The item on Stormwater Regulations is currently on the consent agenda. I have been informed that it may be pulled (meaning there could be discussion, with possible public input on the item tonight), but also that staff intend to ask for a 2 week deferral in order to research the rules further, particularly in their accordance with current Neuse River Basin requirements.

Thus, it appears that there is little need for citizens to go out in the cold tonight to attend the City Council meeting.

Your time and presence would be better spent at a later, deferred meeting on the matter.

In the meantime, you can write council members with your support of stronger stormwater regulations. In particular, I'd like to ask that Durham find and implement ways to assure that the land that can be bought for open space (off the development site under consideration, in lieu of having to fullfill requirements on-site) is not just a cheap piece of property that cannot be developed anyway -- I'm not sure how to do this, but perhaps by adding requirements that any such (off-site) land contain 1 or more of a list of things (inventory sites, floodplains, contiguous forest/trails, creeks/tributaries, etc.)

Thanks and Stay tuned...

Melissa
