Durham Youth Commission Seeks Applicants

Members Provide Perspective to City Council Regarding Decisions
Affecting Durham's Youth

 

Durham, N.C. - Durham youth who want a voice in their City government
are now being invited to apply to serve for a one-year term on the
2009-2010 Durham Youth Commission.

 

The Durham Youth Commission consists of 30 members from grades 9 - 12
chosen by a selection committee composed of the Durham City Council,
City staff members, and Partners Against Crime (PAC) leaders. 

 

Durham youth interested in submitting an application must reside within
the corporate city limits; express an interest in contributing to the
greater well-being of the City of Durham; commit to 100 percent
participation in all activities; demonstrate leadership in school and/or
community activities; and complete the required application with two
reference letters by Friday, April 24, 2009, at 4:30 p.m. 

 

To download an application, visit the City's Web site at 
www.durhamnc.gov/council/dyc.cfm.  Applications will also be distributed
through the Durham Public School System, to private and home schools,
Durham County libraries, PAC monthly meetings, the City's recreation
centers, and the City Clerk's Office, located on the second floor of
City Hall at 101 City Hall Plaza, Durham.
