North Carolina has over 300 miles of beautiful
coastline, thanks in large part to our current state law that
bans “hardened structures” from being built on our
beaches. That protection is now being threatened in the state
legislature again this year, for the fourth and hopefully final
year. However, the bill proposed this year is worse than
ever.
While last
year’s legislation was only for one community’s
exemption to the rule, Senate Bill 832 proposes to
undo 24 years of sound coastal policy and allow hardened
structures to be built along our entire ocean
coastline.
We need your help to keep North Carolina's beaches
public and natural. Help us stop Senate Bill
832: http://ncconservationnetwork1.org/campaign/protectncbeaches03_09

Numerous
studies have shown that hardened structures, sometimes called
terminal groins, actually erode the coastline further down
the beach — not solving the problem but
merely providing a quick fix for a few homeowners with
destructive consequences for our public beaches.

Why "100%
Auction" matters: Congress is likely to
consider federal climate legislation this year to address global
warming. Likely, it will be in the form of a “cap and
trade” system.... Click here to read more or subscribe
