New "City Hall This Week" Begins Monday

New Episode Begins Airing Monday, May 11 on Time Warner Cable Channel 8;

All Episodes Now "On Demand" on the City's DTV8 Web Site

 

Durham, N.C. - The following highlights from the May 4, 2009 Durham City
Council meeting and other topics of interest will be featured in the
upcoming episode of "City Hall This Week."  The show will begin airing
on Monday, May 11 at 1:30 p.m. on Time Warner Cable channel 8 and will
also be available to watch on demand on the City's Web site at 
www.durhamnc.gov/dtv8/CityHallThisWeek.cfm. 

 

First Quarter Crime Report Offers Encouraging News

*         The Durham Police Department's First Quarter Crime Report
shows there was an 8 percent decrease in violent and property crimes
compared to the first quarter of 2008.  Violent crime reached a
four-year first quarter low by dropping 30 percent from the same time
period last year.  Property crime dropped 3 percent from the first
quarter of 2008.  For more information on the 2009 First Quarter Crime

Third Rate Tier Approved for Stormwater Residential Billing

*         The City Council approved the establishment of a third billing
rate tier for residential stormwater customers. The billing rate for the
third tier will be $9 per month for residential properties with 4,000
square feet or more of impervious surface.  The City's Department of
Public Works estimates that at least 3,000 residential customers will
fall into the new third tier.  The new billing structure will go into
effect in July. 

 

Year-Round Water Efficiency Measures Approved

*         Durham is joining other Triangle region cities and towns in
implementing a water efficiency ordinance.  The measure approved by the
City Council includes a year-round odd-even, alternate day irrigation
schedule and requires rain/moisture sensors for automated irrigation
systems. For more information on this new ordinance, contact the City's

City Council Approves 2009-2010 Annual Action Plan

*         The City's plan for spending millions of dollars in federal
housing funds is on its way to the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban
Development.  The 2009-2010 Annual Action Plan outlines how Durham will
use the funds to address housing and community development needs within
the City.

"City Hall This Week" is a news program dedicated to informing Durham
residents about what is going on inside Durham's City Hall.  Each
edition is taped on the first and third Tuesday of the month - the day
after City Council meetings.  It airs twice a day on Time Warner Cable
channel 8 through the week of the next City Council meeting.  For more
