[Durham INC] Third Friday on the CCB Plaza

Jeff & King's MuSaIC/mOsaic

Friday, June 19

6 p.m.-8 p.m.

 

Jeff + King will create an upbeat musical mix, while artist Jeannette Brossart invites you to participate in a mosaic-making project. The musical-themed mosaic art will be made with a variety of materials including vinyl, ceramic shards and scrap materials. Participants can dance, make art, and enjoy a kaleidoscope of music while basking in the eclectic ambience of downtown Durham's art scene. 

 

The finished mosaics and soundtrack will be exhibited next to the CCB Plaza at White Cap Solutions (115 Market Street) this summer. An official artists' reception will be a part of July's Third Friday (July 17) from 5- 7 p.m.

 

About the Artists:

*	Jeff & King are the area's premier chief rockers as they have been packing local dance halls and entertaining the Triangle for over four years with dynamic  club events such "Prince vs. Michael Jackson" and "Lady Soul."   

 

*	King Kenney is a visual artist in addition to being a music fanatic, his next exhibit "Big Love" will be at Golden Belt this summer from June 22 - August 16. 

 

*	Jeff Johnson, manager of Off-Beat Music in Brightleaf Square, is a music expert who has been a consultant for a variety of major events from Troika to Durham Rising. 

 

*	Jeannette Brossart has a working and teaching home studio in Durham, and creates many custom projects for private commissions and art exhibits. She incorporates reuse and scrap materials into many of her works, blending conservation ideals and artistic expression.

Third Fridays at the CCB Plaza is a series of community music and arts programs held at the CCB Plaza on 201 N. Corcoran Street from 6 p.m. - 8 p.m. These events are held in conjunction with the Third Friday Durham Culture Crawl (www.thirdfridaydurham.com). 

 

Additional Third Friday Events are will be held in July and August at the CCB Plaza from 6 p.m. - 8 p.m. Please find the details below: 

 

July 17: EXPLORE! Rhythm 

·         Music Explorium presents interactive drum circles, percussion instrument making, and the Everybody Plays Orchestra led by sound painter Shannon Morrow. 

 

August 21: Durham Be Easy, II

·         Language Arts, Black Poetry Theatre and Dasan Ahanu present this fresh youth chill-out event featuring musical performances of poetry, funk, soul, pop, rock, and hip hop.
