On Sunday, July 12 at the First Presbyterian Church, Barbara Lau will
lead a discussion of Proud Shoes: The Story of an American Family by
Pauli Murray.  Murray (1910-1985) was an Episcopal priest, a life long
champion of civil and human rights. She grew up in Durham and was a
poet, attorney, and historian.

Barbara Lau heads the Pauli Murray Project and works in the Duke Human
Rights Center. The Pauli Murray Project seeks through an understanding
of history to bring about constructive change. The goal of the project
is to engage members of the community in conversation that builds a more
just community.

The conversation about Proud Shoes will take place at 9:45am in Watts
Hill Hall. It is a part of the congregation's Summer Reading Series.

The public is invited to attend.  First Presbyterian Church is located
at 305 East Main Street, on the corner of Main and Roxboro Streets in
downtown Durham.
