City of Durham Announces New Finance Director

 

DURHAM, N.C. - City Manager Tom Bonfield has selected David Boyd as the
City's new finance director, a position that has been vacant since
January 2008.

 

Boyd comes to Durham from the City of Thornton, Colo., where he rose
through the ranks, starting as a tax auditor in 1997 to become finance
director in 2004.  As the chief financial officer for the city, Boyd
oversaw accounting functions as well as financial operations, including
water, sewer, and solid waste utilities for the city.  

 

As Durham's finance director, Boyd will be responsible for the Treasury,
Purchasing, Risk Management, Accounting Services, and Billing and
Collections Divisions of the department, as well as developing and
managing the city's financial policies, Bonfield said.  "I am thoroughly
impressed with Mr. Boyd's credentials, and I feel he has the relevant
experience and expertise for a city the size and complexity of Durham.
Given our current economy, Mr. Boyd brings the right combination of
finance experience to safeguard and effectively manage the City's
assets."

 

Assistant Finance Director Keith Herrmann has served as interim director
since the departure of Kenneth Pennoyer in January 2008.  A graduate of
South Dakota State, Boyd is a certified public accountant and certified
fraud examiner.  He is scheduled to start his new position on January
19, 2010.
