Jerry Cotton, retired photographic archivist for the North Carolina Collection at UNC, will present a program on NC’s trailblazing female photographer Bayard Wootten. It will be held Sunday, January 10, in the Main Library auditorium (3pm).

Wootten overcame economic hardship, gender discrimination, and the obscurity of a small-town upbringing to become the state’s most significant early female photographer. Her artistic vision, determination, and love of adventure spawned a career that spanned half a century. Cotton will talk about her life and work and show examples of her photographs.

As a special treat, the library will also be hosting an exhibit of Wootten’s work in the library’s third-floor Fiction area, courtesy of UNC’s North Carolina Collection.
