DURHAM, N.C. - The following highlights from the December 22, 2009 and
January 4, 2010 Durham City Council meetings and other topics of
interest will be featured in the upcoming episode of "City Hall This
Week." The show will begin airing on Monday, January 11 and will also
be available to watch on-demand at
www.durhamnc.gov/dtv8/CityHallThisWeek.cfm.

City Council Approves Option Contract for Initial Rolling Hills
Development

* The City Council approved an option contract with Rolling
Hills developer McCormack Baron Salazar Development Corp. to help the
proposed first phase of the project become a reality. In order for the
developer to secure public financing, a pre-application for low income
housing tax credits and financing will be submitted to the State for a
mixed-income rental development of approximately 117 units. The City
Council approved selling up to approximately 10 acres on the Rolling
Hills site for $1 to the developer so that a valid option contract could
be demonstrated as part of the pre-application requirements. Torti
Gallas and Partners Chief Financial Officer Tom Gallas explains the
overall vision for the redevelopment project on the upcoming episode of
"City Hall This Week."

Community Development Block Grant Funds to Help with Southside
Acquisitions

* The City Council approved the use of $500,000 in Community
Development Block Grant funds by the Center for Community Self Help.
The funds will go toward buying 13 properties that will be part of the
proposed second phase of mixed rental development to be undertaken by
the Rolling Hills/South Side developer. Many of the units that will be
acquired are occupied and the affected tenants will be provided with
relocation assistance according to federal requirements.

Residential Water Meters to be Replaced

*	The City is beginning the process of replacing all residential
water meters and changing the way it reads them. The City Council
approved a $4.4 million contract for Phase I of replacing the
residential water meters throughout Durham's distribution system. This
will allow all meters to be read more accurately and on a monthly basis
using automated meter reading technology, versus the current bi-monthly
basis. There will be four phases to the replacement effort, and each
phase will take six months to complete.

Maintenance Work and Upgrades to be Made at Hillside Park/W.D. Hill
Recreation Center

*	Some much needed maintenance work and upgrades are about to be
made to Hillside Park and the W.D. Hill Recreation Center. The City
Council approved a $480,260 construction contract that will include a
number of Americans with Disability accessibility repairs. It will also
include many other building and facility repairs and upgrades. The
project should be completed by this summer.

Other interviews featured on upcoming episode of "City Hall This Week":

* Budget and Management Services Director Bertha Johnson -
Offers a financial update for how the City is looking at this point in
the fiscal year.

* Durham Parks & Recreation's Assistant Director for Park
Planning, Maintenance and Environmental Education Beth Timson - Explains
why the addition of a pump track and skills course is such an exciting
development for off-road cyclists in Durham.

* Durham Local Census Office Manager Yvonne Sanks - Explains how
