Green
House offers owners and
building professionals easy access to a model of 21st century home
design and construction. Energy-efficiency
is attained through the use of passive solar design, light reflective
metal roof, super-insulation (borate-treated structural insulated wall
panels which are also termite-resistant), high-efficiency HVAC equipment and
appliances, and an active solar hot water heating system. The choice of
low-pollution interior built-in cabinetry, paints, window-coverings, flooring,
exposed ducts and mechanical ventilation assure a home which is healthy
as well as energy-efficient. Seamless covered gutters, exterior
stucco and fiberglass-framed windows and doors reduce on-going maintenance and
exterior mold. The Green House design is older-age friendly, specifying one-level
living with few interior doors, and wide, straight, day-lit corridors in place
of artificially lit, narrow hallways. Acoustical insulated ceiling panels
assure a no-echo
interior, an important aspect often overlooked in residential
and commercial spaces.

In addition to its eco-friendly
functionality, Green House has a
great look. The Green House
(both the home and the book itself) demonstrate the Modernist aesthetic of open interior floor plans
with vaulted ceilings, large and numerous windows, long exposed beams,
extensive use of glass to bring in natural light, and geometric forms.
The Green House works for the
everyday life of its residents, and visually delights and entertains its visitors.
