Fast Facts:
· New for this year, the City of Durham's Department of Human Relations is hosting its 2010 Human Relations Award Ceremony as part of the 16th Annual Hayti Heritage Film Festival. For the past eight years, the department has partnered with St. Joseph's Historic Foundation on this annual event. However, this year, the City's Department of Human Relations is co-hosting the first night of the festival by holding its annual awards ceremony at the film festival.
· The honoree at this year's ceremony is Mark S. Trustin, a Durham attorney with more than 30 years experience in the practice of civil and criminal trial law. In 1996, Trustin co-founded the Durham P.R.O.U.D. Program, a life-skills training and development program for at-risk youth and their families. Since 2001, Trustin has served as an adjunct professor at North Carolina Central University's School of Law.
· Immediately following the 2010 Human Relations Award Ceremony, a community screening of "The Providence Effect," which is a documentary about an all-black parochial school in Chicago that has a 100 percent graduation and college acceptance rate, will occur followed by a panel discussion.
· The 16th Annual Hayti Heritage Film Festival is co-sponsored by the City's Department of Human Relations, North Carolina Arts Council, Chapel Hill-Carrboro Area Alumnae Chapter Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc., and presented by the St. Joseph's Historic Foundation, Inc.
· Attendance at the award ceremony and film screening are free and Durham residents and the news media are encouraged to attend.
