Subject: Stop KFC from destroying our forests

“KFC is as committed to the environment as we are to our food and to our customers. We are proud of the steps we have taken so far to reduce our environmental footprint and are committed as a brand to do even more in the future.” –kfc.com/packaging

A close up of The Green Swamp, NC. Besides destroying forests, clear-cutting negatively impacts waterways as trees no longer buffer the impact of stormwater.
KFC can talk the talk, but the company is definitely not walking the walk.
While other leading fast food companies are working hard to adopt sustainable packaging policies, KFC continues to make its famous buckets from trees that were “harvested” from pristine forests across the South. This harvesting includes The Green Swamp – a unique, irreplaceable forest in Brunswick County, North Carolina which contains some of the country’s finest examples of longleaf pine savannas.

Help us call attention to this problem by sending an email to KFC leaders Roger Eaton and David Novak: http://action.ncconservationnetwork.org/site/R?i=_R9WiVfKdBqUUMKGUUnkKA..
Let’s let them know we don’t want to lose our prized forests for making nearly every aspect of KFC’s business operations, from cups to boxes, bags, promotions, and of course, KFC’s iconic buckets. There are more sustainable ways to make packaging that do not involve clear cutting trees and threatening this biologically diverse and unique wetland.
