I think this is something neighborhoods might want to support.  It obviously represents a LOT of work to figure out how much and what type of bike racks (a whole new column in Section 10.3 of the UDO) are required for all sorts of land uses. We might ask that the bike racks be covered (not exposed to sunlight that will mess up the tires??)

Please be advised of the upcoming
proposed change to the text of the Durham Unified Development Ordinance
(UDO):  Text Change TC1000001 requests revisions to bike parking standards
and Alternative Pedestrian Plans to Sec. 3.7, Site Plan Review, Sec. 6.1,
District Intensity in General, Sec. 8.1, Purpose, Sec. 10.3, Required Parking,
Sec. 10.4, Design Standards, Sec. 12.4, Pedestrian and Bicycle Mobility, and
Sec. 13.6, Street Connectivity Requirements.

 

The Durham Planning Commission will hold a public hearing on
TC01000001 on May 11, 2010 at 5:30 p.m. in the City Council Chambers at 101
City Hall Plaza.  The text of the proposed change may be viewed at www.durhamnc.gov/council/ord_changes.
 Once the agenda is finalized, the staff memo may be viewed under
“Schedule” at www.durhamnc.gov/departments/planning/planning_commission.cfm.
