[Durham INC] Fw: Falls Lake Update - Public Hearing Dates

See below. It's worth passing on to all Durham citizens.

You should have received the notice regarding the Durham City Council's increase in your stormwater utilities fees this year -- to cover clean up costs of the lake(s). New rates (with a 9.3 % increase) are effective July 1, 2010.

Note that the fee is based on the square feet of IMPERVIOUS surface of the property.
This is direct evidence against anyone who says that citizens aren't paying for the costs of irresponsible development practices (while developers are avoiding these costs and reaping the profits).

I don't mind paying to clean up our water sources, but it's only fair to start holding developers responsible for the contribution of their developments to the stormwater runoff problems.

Falls Lake Stakeholders,

I wanted to take this opportunity to provide you with an update on the
Falls rulemaking process and notify you that DWQ has received approval
to publish the proposed Falls Lake rules in the June 15th NC Register.
In the meantime, you can also view the proposed temporary rules posted
on the OAH
<http://www.oah.state.nc.us/rules/proposedtemp/15ANCAC02BRules.doc>
website (the rule text is identical to the permanent rules that will be
published in the register on the 15th).

The official 60 day public comment period will begin on June  15, 2010
and end August 16, 2010.  Two public hearings are scheduled. The dates
and locations of these meetings are provided below.  Once the rules are
posted to the register I will send a follow-up email with additional
information next week.   Please do not hesitate to contact me in the
meantime if you have any questions or concerns.
