[Durham INC] breaking news: Museum of Life & Science pulls back from its own letter supporting digital billboards]

Dear INC members:
There has been a lot of community concern about the recent Independent 
Weekly article citing the Museum of Life & Science's support of digital 
billboards. They have just issued a clarification to Council stating 
that they "do not intend to take an official position on the pending 
vote on the billboard ordinance."  Below is a link to the Indy article

Subject: Clarification from Museum of Life and Science

Distinguished Members of the Durham City Council:

I am writing to address some confusion and misunderstanding about the 
Museum’s stance on the billboard ordinance under consideration by the 
Durham City Council. An article in Independently Weekly on June 30 
correctly stated that the Museum has “not taken a position” on the 
billboard ordinance, but the article apparently has caused some 
confusion among its readers. The Museum has not taken and does not 
intend to take an official position on your pending vote on the 
billboard ordinance.

As a point of information, the Museum has benefitted from the in-kind 
support of various media companies over a number of years. Our previous 
letter expresses gratitude for this support and explains the benefits of 
media support to the Museum.

We acknowledge and are sensitive to the various perspectives on the 
billboard ordinance, and after hearing from citizens and organizations 
in Durham, we trust that the City Council will make an informed decision.
