Durham's Second Water Interconnection with Raleigh About to Begin

The construction of the City's second water interconnection with Raleigh
is about to get under way - serving as one more step toward ensuring
additional water supplies for Durham. The City Council approved a
$1,785,000 construction contract for phase one of the project. It will
begin near the intersection of Angier Avenue and Miami Boulevard and
will end at the intersection of Page Road Extension and U.S. Hwy. 70.
The City owns and operates six interconnections with other area
utilities, including one already established with Raleigh on T.W.
Alexander Drive. The interconnections allow the utilities to share water
in case of droughts, other emergency events, or simply when an alternate
source of water is needed.

Durham Continues Partnerships to Prepare Long-Range Transportation Plans
for Region

Durham and its transportation partners will continue to rely on the
Triangle Regional Travel Demand Model to make long-range plans for the
region. The model is a forecasting tool that helps to develop long-term
transportation plans and to predict the impact of regional travel on air
quality. The technical work of model updates and enhancements are
centralized at a Service Bureau at N.C. State. The City Council approved
an agreement with the university to pay $111,607 for Durham's share of
the service.

City to Give Habitat for Humanity Nine Lots in Northeast Central Durham

Nine vacant lots in Northeast Central Durham will soon be occupied by
new homes available at low-income prices. The City is deeding the
properties on Morning Glory Avenue and North Blacknall Street to Habitat
for Humanity of Durham at no cost. The completed homes will be
affordable for households earning 80 percent or below of the area median
income.
