Please attend the city council meeting tomorrow night (7PM, City Hall) and voice 
your concerns (if only by your presence in the audience) about the city's vote 
on extending the Urban Growth Boundary in South Durham, required for annexation 
(and water and sewer) for the 751 South project and surrounding land. Please ask 
the mayor and the council members to finally hold the line on what remains of 
South Durham and the protective land surrounding Jordan Lake.

At the very least please email the Mayor and the City Council with your concerns 
first thing this morning (January 3):

Dear Members, Friends, and Sustainers, 

Happy New Year! We hope you and your family had a great holiday season. PA is 
ready to continue our progressive work, with your support, in 2011!

The first order of business in 2011 is to thank the City Council for not taking 
up the issue of water and sewer extension to the 751S development until after 
the courts have ruled. Thanks to all of you who sent emails requesting this 
delay. 


However, please note that the public hearing regarding the Urban Growth Boundary 
is on the agenda tomorrow (January 3rd). The PA Coordinating Committee has 
passed the following resolution and asks Council not to extend the Urban Growth 
Boundary west of NC 751:

WHEREAS, the current state of water quality in Jordan Lake presents the
possibility of Durham having to bear major cleanup costs even at the current
level of development and;

WHEREAS, development at densities higher than those permitted under the current
RR level would further increase potential cleanup costs and;

WHEREAS, Durham's greatest need for jobs is in areas much closer  to the city
center, and

WHEREAS, extension of schools, roads, police protection and other services will
be very costly,  especially in the light of unused infrastructure capacity
elsewhere in the city and

WHEREAS, the above considerations argue strongly for compact future  
development,
housing rehabilitation and infill; therefore be it

RESOLVED that the Durham People's Alliance asks the Durham City Council
to leave the Urban Growth Boundary as it is, and not extend it west of NC
751 in Southern Durham.


We ask you to attend this public hearing to show your support of the  current 
boundary.
