[Durham INC] NC and Durham: privatizing our education?

It looks like at least two of our county commissioners are buying into it. Joe 
Bowser was against the prepared food tax b/c he said it targeted the poor. There 
have been objections to a plastic bag tax because it supposedly targets the poor 
(haven't figured that one out yet). Yet Bowser is apparently hoping that charter 
schools will relieve the county of the cost of building schools to accommodate 
all the rampant development that Durham gov't has allowed (much of which has not 
heeded our comprehensive plan, but instead required piece meal ammendments) in 
the name of increasing its tax base. Talk about targeting the poor -- the people 
who can't afford to bring their own lunches and transport to school will be the 
wards of our public schools, while those who can will move to Charter  schools, 
and this whole system of inequality will be funded by our tax dollars!
