City Hall Plaza Construction Set to Begin

Construction is set to begin in March on the transfor-mation of City
Hall Plaza into a new streetscape-type area similar to the recently
completed downtown improvement project. The project is slated to take
four months and will include pav-ing, curb and gutter, storm drainage,
water line installation, and new landscaping. The design for this
project will include a van drop-off area for the disabled and will
incorporate new water quality devices.

City Council awarded the contract to Lanier Con-struction of Snow Hill,
North Carolina who recently completed the Main Street-West Village
Streetscape proj-ect from Duke Street to Great Jones Street.

City Hall Plaza will be closed to vehicular traffic during the entire
construction period. Pedestrians will always have access to City Hall's
front entrance and there will be a van drop off located on Mangum
Street. The contractor will coordinate with users to main-tain access to
the loading dock. For more information, visit the City Hall Plaza
project page
