Since I've received all 120 of these replies, let me go ahead and chime-in with one thought:
Ken's last reply was on the money; it forces individuals who mean well, to think and look at the core of poverty. It's very easy for those of us who eat well, to give a hungry man $1.00, and walk away boasting of our great deeds, willingness to help someone "not like us" and feel as if we've accomplished something.
Meanwhile, that very individual has been provided with nothing to sustain him past that $1.00.
In other words: give a man a house, which isn't his, and he has shelter (with provisions). Teach a man how to build a house, and where the supplies are, and you've given him a foundation for success.
We need to focus more on educating people; which is why our INC Sister - Melissa Rooney - needs our support with all of her school-related efforts.
Beyond that, we need to do more for the homeless than providing shelters (which foster an atmosphere of recycling homeless). People need to learn a trade, as well as business creation education.
In Ken I trust,
Darius
