City Council Receives Public Input on FY 2011-2012 Budget

The City Council is continuing to ask for public input on the
development of the FY 2011-2012 budget. As part of that process, Council
members heard several residents during the first of two public hearings
on the spending plan. The second hearing will be held on the proposed
budget on June 6. The budget will be adopted in June before the next
fiscal year begins on July 1.

Quality Assurance Testing Contract Approved for 2011 Street Repaving
Projects

The City Council approved a $99,000 contract to have quality assurance
testing performed on the asphalt that will be used for the 2011 street
repaving projects. The contract involves conducting quality assurance
testing on 10 percent of the contractor's asphalt for each of the four
repaving projects. The projects will be paid for with bond funds
approved by voters last fall. Public Works Assistant Engineering Manager
Michael Hughes explains why it is important that the testing be
performed and how the tests will be conducted on the upcoming episode of
"City Hall This Week."

Portions of Streets Throughout City to Gain Sidewalks

Portions of five streets throughout the city will soon be gaining
sidewalks. The $488,931 sidewalk construction project allows for new
sidewalks to be built for parts of Wilderness Road, Hunt Street, Markham
Avenue, Lakewood Avenue, and Club Boulevard. After this project, there
will be $1.5 million remaining in bond funding for new sidewalk
construction, sidewalk repair, and curb ramp construction.
