N.C. 54/Interstate 40 Corridor Study Enters Phase II of Planning Process
Open Houses Scheduled March 29 and April 11 to Receive Feedback on
Regional Gateway's Growth
DURHAM, N.C. - The Durham-Chapel Hill-Carrboro Metropolitan Planning
Organization (DCHC MPO) is hosting two open house sessions in Durham and
Chapel Hill where residents can provide guidance and input about
transportation infrastructure alternatives for the N.C. 54 corridor near
the Interstate 40 interchange and Farrington Road.
The open house in Durham will be held on Tuesday, March 29, 2011, from 4
p.m. to 7 p.m. in the 2nd Floor Committee Room in Durham City Hall,
located at 101 City Hall Plaza, Durham.
The open house in Chapel Hill will be held on Monday, April 11, 2011,
from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m., in the main meeting room of the Chapel Hill
Public Library, 100 Library Drive, Chapel Hill.
A short presentation will be given at each open house session on the
hour beginning at 4 p.m.
The initial draft report, completed in August 2010, went through a
four-month public review process. This review highlighted several key
issues of public concern that the new draft recommendations have
addressed.
Residents who are unable to attend the open house sessions are
encouraged to view the new draft recommendations and presentation
beginning March 29 on the project website at
www.NC54-I40CorridorStudy.com <http://www.nc54-i40corridorstudy.com/> .
Residents may also download a comment card and submit it by e-mail to
Leta Huntsinger, transportation systems engineer with the DCHC MPO, at
Leta.Huntsinger at DurhamNC.gov.
The N.C. 54/I-40 corridor serves as one of the major gateways between
Chapel Hill and Durham, which consistently ranks as one of the top
congested locations in the region. Development pressures within the
corridor coupled with mobility and capacity issues have highlighted that
the existing and planned transportation infrastructure is insufficient
to accommodate growth and address land use and transportation problems.
For more information about the study or Phase I public responses, visit
the project website at www.NC54-I40CorridorStudy.com.
Residents interested in joining the e-mail list to receive information
about this project should contact Leta Huntsinger at (919) 560-4366,
ext. 36423 or by e-mail at Leta.Huntsinger at DurhamNC.gov.
