Fast Facts:

· The Center for Disease Control and Prevention estimates that 20 to 25 percent of college women in the United States experience attempted or completed rape while in college. This event will focus on the need for college women to get educated about the issues surrounding sexual assault, rape, and domestic violence.

· Mayor William V. "Bill" Bell's Domestic Violence, Sexual Assault, and Rape Task Force was created three years ago and is co-chaired by Council Member Mike Woodard and City of Durham Human Relations Director Yvonne Peña. During this task force's monthly meetings, members have expressed a strong interest in creating a day-long conference to reach out to college women about this pervasive issue. As part of that interest, the Campus Subcommittee of this task force has partnered with Durham County Government; Durham Crisis Response Center (DCRC); North Carolina Central University; Durham Technical Community College; Duke University Women's Center; and North Carolina Coalition Against Sexual Assault (NCCASA) to produce this conference.

· There will also be a number of different workshops offered during the conference, including:

o Student-on-Student Sexual Assault: Ten Critical Practices

o Building Commitment to an Underserved Community: Students with Disabilities and Sexual Violence

o Creating Effective Law Enforcement-Advocate Collaborations

o Campus Safety Audit: A Query into Best Practice Methodology for Sexual Assault/Relationship Violence Policies and Procedures

o One Act: A New Bystander Education Program at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill

o My Body, My Temple: Tools for Supporting a Sexual Assault Survivor

· This conference is free and open to the public and lunch as well as snacks will be provided. However, attendees are asked to pre-register to attend the conference by Wednesday, March 30, 2011, at https://sites.google.com/site/campussexualassault/.
