Monday, May 2, 7:00pm, City Council Public Hearing on Funds for
Neighborhoods, Housing, & Services.

INC passed a Resolution asking City Council to continue the same level of
funding for neighborhoods, housing & services in fiscal year 2011-2012.
With advocacy by many groups, the City proposed to continue funding three
groups that serve homeless & hungry people: Asbury Temple UMC Food Pantry,
Interfaith Hospitality Network Case Manager, & Urban Ministries of Durham
Community Kitchen.

However, the City still proposes to eliminate funds for other services:
Durham Crisis Response Center serving 3,500 victims of domestic violence,
Durham Affordable Housing Coalition counseling 176 homeowners to prevent
foreclosure, and Operation Breakthrough repairing & weatherizing 28 homes.

The City also proposes cuts to youth & training: John Avery Boys & Girls
Clubs, Teen Court & Restitution, Durham Housing Authority Community Learning
Center, and Milestones Culinary Institute.

Funds would be reduced for housing in neighborhood revitalization areas,
including: Habitat, Durham Community Land Trustees, Builders of Hope, &
Preservation Durham in Northeast Central Durham, West End, Lyon Park, &
other Southwest Central Durham neighborhoods. No funds for services are
targetted to these or the new revitalization area of Southside.
