Durham Paper Shredding and E-Waste Event Sunday
Free Event at 2011 Durham Earth Day Festival; Open to All Durham
Residents and Businesses
What: Paper Shredding and E-Waste Recycling Event
Who: City of Durham Solid Waste Management Department,
Sonoco Recycling, Shimar Recycling, and Synergy Recycling
When: Sunday, May 1, 2011, from 12 p.m. to 5 p.m.
Where: Durham Central Park

Fast Facts:
* This event will accept nearly all electronic devices with a
cord, including:
* Computers, laptops, keyboards, mice, printers, monitors,
speakers, copiers, scanners, circuit boards, hard drives, computer
parts, etc.
* Televisions, stereo equipment, tape players, receivers,
amplifiers, record players, etc.
* Kitchen electronics, such as microwaves, mixers,
blenders, choppers, etc.
* Telephones, cell phones, and fax machines
* Hair dryers, curling irons, alarm clocks, and vacuum
cleaners
* Power tools, cordless tools, etc.
* Electronic toys, such as keyboards and video game
systems
* This event will not accept large appliances, refrigerators,
air conditioners, or anything with Freon and is open to all Durham
residents and businesses.
* Free confidential paper shredding will also be provided and
shredding guidelines are as follows:
* Paper accepted for shredding may contain paper clips and
staples
* Hanging file folders will not be accepted
* Residents are welcome to wait while their paper is being
shredded
* Staff will be on hand to unload all electronics and papers
brought to the event.
* Miniature pink carts will also be sold at the event as part of
to the City's 7 Stars Employee Giving Campaign, which is the annual
employee giving campaign through the United Way of the Greater Triangle.
Carts will be sold for $5 each on a first come, first served basis.
Carts may be purchased by cash or check and proceeds will go to support
breast cancer awareness.
* The miniature carts may also be purchased at the City's
Solid Waste Management Department, located at 1833 Camden Ave., Monday
through Friday from 8 a.m. until 4:30 p.m. while supplies last.
* Durham residents who can't make this event can still safely
and conveniently recycle their old electronics at the City's Household
Hazardous Waste Facility. The facility, located at 1900 E. Club Blvd.,
is open Tuesdays and Wednesdays from 12 p.m. to 6 p.m. and Thursdays
through Saturdays from 7:30 a.m. to 3 p.m.
