Durham Showcases Final Angier-Driver Neighborhood Streetscape Project
Design June 13

Community Meeting to Discuss Final Design and Next Steps for this
Targeted Neighborhood Commercial Area Streetscape Project

DURHAM, N.C. - Durham residents interested in reviewing the final
streetscape design for the Angier-Driver commercial area should mark
their calendars now to attend next week's meeting and provide input
directly to City of Durham staff and the project consultants.

On Monday, June 13, 2011, from 6 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. at Angier Avenue
Baptist Church, located at 2101 Angier Ave., the City's Office of
Economic and Workforce Development and the Public Works Department are
hosting a neighborhood meeting to showcase the final design for the
Angier-Driver Neighborhood Commercial Area Streetscape Project.

According to Chris Dickey, senior economic development manager with the
City's Office of Economic and Workforce Development, the department
wants to show the community the final design and discuss next steps for
the project. "Since our first meeting back in September 2010, our goal
has been to create an aesthetically pleasing, safe, and functional
streetscape design for this key commercial district. A major component
of this process has been the continued input of local residents,
businesses, developers and other stakeholders," Dickey said. "Through
these community meetings, we now have a final design to showcase what we
feel will meet all of these objectives, and ultimately improve this
corridor for the businesses and residents on it."

The project, funded by 2005 bond funds, neighborhood revitalization
funds, and capital improvement project funds, addresses streetscape
designs at the intersection of Angier Avenue and Driver Street. The E.G.
& G. Group, Inc. is leading project design and engineering process.
According to Dickey, E.G. & G. Group, Inc. has an extensive track record
of designing and implementing award-winning streetscape projects and has
already prepared conceptual plans for several other neighborhood
commercial areas streetscape projects in Durham.
