Durham's New Workshop Series for Small Businesses Begins Tomorrow

Free Year-Long Services Designed to Support Small Business Growth and
Development; 

First Seminar Set for July 28th 

 

What:              "How to Do Business with the City of Durham" - the
first session in a year-long workshop series for small businesses

When:             Thursday, July 28, 2011, from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m.

Fast Facts:

*         Small businesses in Durham looking for a way to grow should
mark their calendars now for a new series of free seminars designed to
teach them some of the ins-and-outs of successful small business
management.

 

*         The City's Equal Opportunity/Equity Assurance Department is
providing new technical assistance services to provide useful training
sessions to support the growth and development of small businesses. All
of the seminars are free and open to all small businesses in Durham, not
just City-certified small disadvantaged businesses or businesses doing
business with the City. 

 

*         Tomorrow's workshop, "How to Do Business with the City of
Durham," is designed to provide information on the City's purchasing
process. This includes information on the City's procurement; services
and construction processes; vendor registration; how to access business
opportunities; and points of contact. The training will be conducted by
professionals from the City's Purchasing Division in the Finance
Department, General Services Department, Public Works Department, Water
Management Department, and Transportation Department.

About the Equal Opportunity/Equity Assurance Department

The City of Durham's Equal Opportunity/Equity Assurance Department is
responsible for the implementation of the City's Equal Business
Opportunity Program. Responsibilities include implementation of race and
gender neutral measures to facilitate the participation of Small
Disadvantaged Business Enterprises (SDBE) in City contracting activity,
recruitment, certification, and maintenance of SDBE data bank, business
development, City project compliance, monitoring, and reporting. To
