News story this AM from Fayetteville:
The City Council approved a bond issue of nearly $10.6 million Monday night that should alleviate water problems for some of Fayetteville's most flood-prone streets and neighborhoods. The bond issue will pay for more than a dozen projects for improving the drainage of storm runoff across the city.Lisa Smith, the city's chief financial officer, said city officials have identified about $40 million in storm-runoff needs, and the city is starting on the biggest needs first. The planned improvements are in Lafayette Village, Cottonade, Montclair and the Summerhill North neighborhoods, among other areas.Other projects are near Seabrook Road, Chesapeake Road, Ravenhill Drive, Forest Hills Drive and McNeill Circle.Smith said some of the revenue generated by the $36 annual stormwater fee levied on each residence will be used to retire the bond debt over 15 years. She said a few of the projects have begun already, and the bond money will be used to reimburse those expenses. The other projects are expected to begin over the next 12 months, officials said.
