environmental technology should submit their applications by 5 p.m. on
Tuesday, September 6, 2011, to participate in the City of Durham's
Brownfields Environmental Job Training Program. The objective of the
program is to train up to 25 individuals in environmental

training, lead abatement, soil/water sampling, and asbestos/hazardous
material handling.

* The City of Durham's Office of Economic and Workforce
Development, in collaboration with the U.S. Environmental Protection
Agency and Durham Technical Community College, is hosting a series of
orientation sessions for potential applicants interested in attending
the job training program.

* The program, set to begin in late September 2011, is being
provided thanks to a grant awarded by the U.S. Environmental Protection
Agency. It will last approximately 10 weeks and will be held Monday
through Friday from 12:30 p.m. to 4:30 p.m. at Durham Technical
Community College's Main Campus. Labor market information indicates that
the average starting salaries for participants that successfully
complete the program could be between $11 to $13 per hour.

* Residents living in Northeast Central Durham are particularly
encouraged to apply, but all applications from Durham residents will be
accepted for review. The program is limited to only 25 participants, so
initial criteria that will be used to evaluate applicants include:

o 18 years of age or older

o Resident of the City or County of Durham

o High school diploma or general equivalency degree (GED)

o Valid North Carolina driver's license

o Ability and willingness to lift 25 pounds and perform tasks
requiring physical labor in an outside environment

o Ability to pass a drug screening

* Participants interesting in applying for this training program
or attending one of the orientation sessions should contact Sontina
Greene, adult program coordinator with the City's Office of Economic and
Workforce Development, by e-mail at Sontina.Greene at DurhamNC.gov or by
calling (919) 560-4965, ext. 15218.
