I will never forget a moment that is at least five years old now. I was
employed by a university. The wife of one of my coworkers was faculty in
the chemistry department at the same school, and we all enjoyed a
friendship outside of the work relationships. The moment in question was
when she abruptly appeared in the doorway of my office and said, "hi!
Can I have some of your hair?" I was intrigued.

It was for research about the content of certain elements in the hair of
people who live in Europe or North America. They needed several years of
data for each subject and she thought of me as my hair was waist length
then.
