DURHAM, N.C. - The following highlights from the September 19, 2011
Durham City Council meeting and other topics of interest will be
featured in this episode of "City Hall This Week." The show begins
airing on Friday, September 23 at 8 p.m. and will also be available to
watch on demand at www.DurhamNC.gov/DTV8/CityHallThisWeek.cfm.

City Council Approves Fayetteville Street-University Land Use Update

The City has a new land use update for the Fayetteville Street-North
Carolina Central University (NCCU) corridor. The Fayetteville
Street-University Land Use Update is a small area plan for the
Fayetteville Street Corridor from the Stanford Warren Library to the
south end of the NCCU Campus. Planning Supervisor Aaron Cain explains
what the purpose of the update is and how it could affect the area
surrounding NCCU on the upcoming episode of "City Hall This Week."

Year-End Financial Report Offers Encouraging News for City

Durham's year-end financial report is out, and despite the still
struggling economy, the numbers show that the City was able to come in
on budget yet again. One of the primary reasons for that is the City's
98.75 percent property tax collection rate, which helped to offset the
disappointing revenue generated by the sales tax. Budget Director Bertha
Johnson explains those numbers further and what the financial outlook is
for next year on the upcoming episode of "City Hall This Week."

More Progress Soon to be Made on City's Water Systems Improvement
Project

More progress will soon be made on the City's Water Systems Improvement
Project. The City Council approved a license agreement with the North
Carolina Railroad and the Norfolk Southern Railway to install a 36-inch
waterline along West Main Street. The waterline will interconnect and
run parallel to existing waterlines that cut across the railroads'
right-of-ways. It will replace existing waterlines that were originally
installed in 1887 and 1901.

Other interviews featured on upcoming episode of "City Hall This Week":

* Full Frame Documentary Festival Director Deirdre Haj -
Explains why the world-renowned festival is renewing its commitment to
downtown and the Durham Convention Center.

* Transportation Director Mark Ahrendsen - Offers important
information on the upcoming half-cent sales tax referendum to support
transit improvements.

* Future Habitat for Humanity Homeowner Tamara Hall - Explains

Durham employee volunteers.
