Hi Melissa--
I just saw your note. I watched the BOCC meeting last night. At one
point Michael Page noted that there were no citizens signed up to speak
during the public hearing--just Lewis Cheek and someone else speaking
for the developers.
I hope the BOCC does not take this to mean there is no opposition to
their decision. It's just that Bowser, Howerton and Page have made it
known for a long time that they're in bed with the developers on this
project. Durham citizens are not stupid and we recognize an exercise in
futility when we see one. Turning out to a BOCC meeting to oppose County
extension of sewer lines to 751 South would qualify as an exercise in
futility. But they should not take that as an absence of dissent or as a
sign of approval.
Looking forward to elections . . . . .
Kelly J.

> The temporary restraining order preventing the county commissioners from voting to extend sewer to the controversial 751 South project was denied today.
>
> If you are anywhere near the city center tonight, please consider stopping by the Board of County Commissioners meeting and signing up to say a few words about the ridiculousness of them even considering extending sewer to this development...or at least to delay action until the completion of the court case regarding their improper handling of the protest petition that should have invalidated the rezoning for this project a year ago. The city has voted to postpone action until the citizens have had their day in court...why is the county in such a rush? Furthermore, all staff has recommended denial of sewer services to this development -- this means the county manager/engineer/everyone but the 3 commissioners who seem hell-bent (for whatever reasons) on making this development happen.?
>
> Thanks for attending and making your concerns known.
> And please don't forget the actions of these three county commissioners when the elections come around. Gov't officials who so blatantly ignore (no, step on) their constituency(ies) should be voted out of office.
