County Extension Partners with American Heart Association and Walmart to Host Heart Healthy Cooking Demonstrations

Durham, NC - 
Heart disease continues to be the leading cause of death among Americans. Adopting a healthy diet is one of many well-known ways to reduce heart disease.  To get increase awareness of this basic yet life-saving practice, Durham County Extension has partnered with the American Heart Association and Walmart to host a day of cooking demonstrations to share ideas on how to put the fun and healthy back into cooking.  The day of demos, titled Simple Cooking with Heart, will take place on Saturday, November 5, 2011, from 9 a.m. to 11:30a.m.   Residents, at least 15 years of age, are invited to attend the free session where they will learn recipes used to reduce overall risks of heart disease and stroke.  Door prizes, nutrition activities and samples will be a part of the excitement during the informative event.     To get in on the fun, interested residents must register by Wednesday, November 2.
