Durham Recognized for Green Fleet Program

Durham Only City in North Carolina to Win Award; Marks Third Consecutive
Year of International Distinction

DURHAM, N.C. - The City of Durham has once again received international
recognition for having one of the "greenest" government vehicle fleets
in North America.

The City's Fleet Management Department was recognized earlier this month
for being 37th in North America for having the best green fleet program
by Green Fleet Magazine, Green Fleet Conference & Expo organizers, and
The 100 Best Fleets in North America. The City of Durham is the only
city in North Carolina to place on this year's Top 40 Green Fleet Awards
list, and this acknowledgement marks the third consecutive year that
Durham has won this international distinction.

Top 40 Green Fleet Award is tailored around the challenges and
requirements of the government fleet manager. The award is given based
on several key evaluation categories including fuel and emissions,
policy and planning, fleet utilization, education, executive and
employee involvement, and supporting programs.

According to Kent Cash, director of the City's Fleet Management
Department, the award is a testament to the City's continued efforts to
go green and reduce greenhouse gas emissions. "Since there are over
38,000 public fleets in North America, we consider being in the top 40 a
real compliment of our continued efforts here in Durham," Cash said. "As
a department, we want to do our part to help the City achieve its goal
of reducing greenhouse gas emissions. As part of that, we are constantly
searching for ways to use renewable fuels, implement new technologies,
and wisely use our fleet vehicles."
