Durham Opens City Hall Plaza After Streetscape and Accessibility
Improvements

City Hall Plaza Closed in March to Improve Access to City Hall

 

DURHAM, N.C. - Residents planning to attend tonight's City Council
Meeting may be among the first to see the recently opened City Hall
Plaza. The City of Durham Public Works Department plans to reopen City
Hall Plaza to vehicular traffic this evening at 6 p.m. 

 

According to the department, the new streetscape improves accessibility
to City Hall, including a new drop-off that separates vehicular traffic
and provides a safer area for residents to enter City Hall. The project
also includes new sidewalks with accessible ramps. City Hall Plaza also
has a new stormwater system that includes four Filterra Bioretention
Sys-tems, which captures stormwa-ter pollutants and treats urban runoff.
The combi-nation of landscape vegetation and a specially designed filter
allows bacteria, metals, nutrients, and suspended solids to be removed
from stormwater pollutants naturally.
