Durham Hosts Rail Transit Alternatives Analysis Public Hearing
Hearing Gives Residents the Opportunity to Provide Input for the
Durham-Orange and Durham-Wake Passenger Rail Corridors
What: Rail Transit Alternatives Analysis Public Hearing
Who: Durham-Chapel Hill-Carrboro Metropolitan Planning
Organization (DCHC MPO)
When: Wednesday, January 11, 2012, at 9 a.m.
Where: Durham City Hall
Committee Room, Second Floor
101 City Hall Plaza
Durham, N.C. 27701
Fast Fact:
* This public hearing is an opportunity for residents to provide
input on the locally preferred alternatives for the Durham-Orange and
Durham-Wake passenger rail corridors. The Transportation Advisory
Committee, which is the policy-making board of the DCHC MPO, invites
residents to provide comments and feedback during this public hearing.
* The locally preferred alternative identifies the draft
alignment, station locations, and endpoints of the proposed rail
systems. Residents will also have additional opportunities over the next
several years to comment on the increasingly more detailed design and
environmental studies as they are developed.
* Implementation of the transit projects adopted by the DCHC MPO
and the county-specific bus investment plans are dependent upon funding
secured through successful local referenda in Orange and Wake counties
matched with federal, state, and additional local funding. The Durham
County referendum was approved by voters on November 8, 2011.
* The multi-volume Alternatives Analysis Reports for the
Triangle Regional Transit Program, released in April 2011, includes the
results of an extensive analysis of the corridors identified in the 2035
Long Range Transportation Plan.
* The first volume of each corridor report summarizes the
overall findings and identifies the most viable alignments, transit
technologies, and station locations for major transit system investments
in Durham, Orange, and Wake counties over the next 24 years.
* For additional information or to submit comments, contact Andy
Henry, transportation planner with the City of Durham Transportation
Department/DCHC MPO, at (919) 560-4366, ext. 36419 or via email at

* Residents may also submit comments by mail to the City of
Durham Transportation Department, located at 101 City Hall Plaza, Fourth
Floor, Durham, N.C. 27701, up to the time of the January 11th public
hearing
