Durham Council Members Re-Appointed to National League of Cities'
Steering Committees
Mayor Pro Tempore Also Appointed to N.C. League of Municipalities
Committee
DURHAM, N.C. - National League of Cities (NLC) President Ted Ellis has
announced the re-appointments of two Durham City Council members to 2012
steering committees.
Mayor Pro Tempore Cora Cole-McFadden has been re-appointed to the NLC's
2012 Human Development Steering Committee. This committee is responsible
for developing policy positions on issues involving social services,
children and learning, poverty and income support, employment and
workforce development, equal opportunity, Social Security and seniors,
individuals with disabilities, public health care, mental health parity
and immigration reform.
City Council Member Mike Woodard has also been re-appointed to the NLC's
2012 Transportation Infrastructure and Services Steering Committee. This
committee is responsible for developing policy positions on issues
involving transportation, including planning, funding, safety and
security of public transit, streets and highways, aviation, railroads
and ports. Woodard was first appointed to the committee in 2010.
In addition to Cole-McFadden's NLC re-appointment, she has also been
recently appointed for a two-year term as a member of the Tax and
Finance Legislative Action Committee for the North Carolina League of
Municipalities. This committee consider policies related to bonds/debt
financing, budgeting/fiscal control, economic development, incentives,
impact fees, interlocal financing, investment of government funds,
property tax, public-private partnership, sales tax, special
assessments, state-collected taxes (utility franchise, beer/wine,
telecommunications, video programming, and solid waste tipping fees),
tax reform, and user charges.
